What type of jobs can I get paid to mystery shop at?

Mystery Shopping

When we left off yesterday, we were familiarizing ourselves with the concept of mystery shopping. Today, we will go into a little more detail about what I specifically do and brands I have had the opportunity to shop for.

Regions

Mystery Shopping is divided up into different regions based on where you live. What I have available in the midwest might be completely different than what you see on the west coast. Trust me, though, even if they are different, the opportunities are there. I know because I have personally searched for them while traveling, and I was shocked at all of the fun places I had the opportunity to visit and report on.

Because you are probably wondering if any of the available jobs would fit your lifestyle, and which popular brands might appeal to you, I’ve made a few lists that might peak your interest. Please note that these lists are just scratching the surface of what could be available.

Types of Jobs

All of these jobs are reimbursed, and most even have an additional base pay to sweeten the deal. In the last two years, I have actually been paid to:

  • Eat out with family and friends
  • Shop at stores in the mall
  • Get my oil changed
  • View fancy apartments
  • Make phone calls
  • Get copies made at a print shop
  • Have pizza delivered
  • Bowl with the family
  • and more!

And although I have not personally accepted the following offers, I have also seen these on the job boards:

  • Routine teeth cleaning
  • NFL Football Game (I actually just got an offer last week for KC Chiefs vs. NY Giants! I passed because we were already planning on rooting for the Bears at home at the same time, but it was tempting!)
  • MLB Baseball Game
  • Ski and/or Golf Resort Stay
  • Hotel stays with breakfast
  • Zoo Trip
  • Mini Golf
  • Carousel and train rides at local parks and malls

Are you surprised by any of these? I was when I first started seeing them! I would love to let you in on a few popular brands too. Although I am not allowed to give specific details on which ones I have completed mystery shops for, I can tell you that I frequently see these names pop up. You might even recognize some as businesses in your area:

Now that you have a specific idea on what you can get paid to do, tomorrow I will cover some excuses that may have deterred you from getting involved with mystery shopping in the past. Myths like- mystery shopping is more work than it’s worth, or you cannot successfully mystery shop if you are a mom. I’ll be sharing 7 common excuses and why I don’t buy them!

  1. I was wondering what sites you use to mystery shop. I’ve been trying to get into this but I don’t know where to start.

    • Hi, Kayla! I will go into much more detail in this later in the series. However, I primarily used volition.com to sign up. As far as where to start- I’d recommend checking back in the series because every day, I am going to be posting a lot of tips and answering a lot of questions beginners have. Hope that helps!

  2. I have the same question as Kayla.
